Hooch tragedy: Case filed against Nitish, Bihar excise minister

Patna,(BiharTimes): A case was filed in the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Ara, by the state RJD general secretary Raghuvar Prasad Chandravanshi on Saturday against chief minister Nitish Kumar and excise minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav. In all nine persons have been named as respondents.

This includes the names of chief secretary, A K Sinha, excise secretary Sandeep Paundrik, Bhojpur DM Pratima S Verma, SP M R Naik, Bhojpur assistant excise commissioner Binod Jha, officer-in-charge, Town police station, B K Chauhan and officer-in-charge, Nawada police station, Shiv Narain Ram.

The case has been instituted under Sections 302, 328, 302/149, 201, 119 and 221 of the IPC and Section 47 of the Excise Act.

The CJM, P K Ojha, fixed Jan 30 as the next date of hearing. The petitioner held all of them responsible for the sale of spurious liquor and the death of over 50 people after consuming it between December 7 and 9.

According to his advocate Nagendra Prasad Yadav licenses of all the government liquor depots had lapsed on March 31, 2012, but later extended upto November 30, 2012. The new allotment was given on December 1, 2012, but none of the shops brewed liquor till December 7.
