Miscreants vandalize Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Motihari station

Patna,(BiharTimes): The walking stick alongside Mahatma Gandhi’s life size statue located on platform No 2 of Bapudham-Motihari railway station was broken by some miscreants on Saturday night.

The statue was unveiled by the then railway minister Lalu Prasad on October 4, 2006.

According to Station superintendent of Bapudham-Motihari Rakesh Kumar Tripathi he had informed higher officials about the vandalisation. The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) are investigating the case.

The irony is that this statue is located in front of RPF police station.

It needs to be recalled that Mahatma Gandhi had reached Motihari for the first time by train on April 15, 1917, to launch what is called in history the Champaran Satyagraha movement. The railway had installed the statue here to commemorate the historic event.
