National Seminar on “Transforming Bihar: Challenges and Innovations” in Patna

BiharTimes, Patna 6 Nov  Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla and the Department of Sociology, Patna University, have jointly organized a National Seminar on “Transforming Bihar: Challenges and Innovations” during November 6-7, 2012. The venue of the Seminar is Auditorium, Geology Department, Science College Campus, Patna.

The inaugural session, beginning at 10.30 AM, has addresses by Professors Peter Ronald deSouza, Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor, Patna University, Shri D. N. Sahaya, former Governor of Tripura and Chairman, A N Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna, Professor Hetukar Jha, Former Head, Dept. of Sociology, Patna University.

Over the two days, twenty delegates will present papers on such themes as social movements and political assertion, politics of social unrest, political economy of out-migration, identity Politics and its imprint, sources and factors for state dysfunction, local government and governance innovations, dynamics of caste and class. This coming together of academics, administrators and activists is intended to appraise the dynamics of changing Bihar. Professor Gopal Guru, the eminent political scientist from JNU, New Delhi, Professor Manjit Singh, Shri Amarjeet Sinha, IAS, and Shri Manoj Shrivastava IAS are some of the delegates to the Seminar. Professor M. N Karna, the former director of A N Sinha Institute of Social Sciences, is the Convener of the Seminar.
