One more convicted in Bihar for student leader Chandrasekhar's murder

Patna, Nov 7 (IANS) A special court here Wednesday convicted one more accused for the murder of CPI-ML leader and former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union president Chandrasekhar in Bihar 15 years ago, a lawyer said.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Chaudhary Birendra Kumar Rai convicted Rustam Mian after holding him guilty of the charges against him in the murder of Chandrasekhar, a Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist (CPI-ML) leader, in Siwan district.

The court fixed Nov 9 for pronouncement of sentence, lawyer said.

Chandrasekhar and his associates Shyam Narayan Yadav and Bhatti Mian were gunned down at a roundabout in Siwan in March 1997.

The leader was allegedly targeted after he launched a campaign to expose corruption and criminalisation of politics in Siwan.

Earlier this year, the CBI court sentenced three convicts to life imprisonment. They were Kumar Jaiswal, Sheikh Munna and Illyas Warsi, all residents of Siwan.
