Nitish Kumar named for negligence in Chhath stampede

Patna, Nov 22 (IANS) A complaint was Thursday filed in a court against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and eight others over alleged negligence leading to 18 stampede deaths during Chhath festival celebrations here three days ago, a lawyer said.

Ramji Yogesh filed the plea in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Preeti Verma, accusing the chief minister and his colleagues of unintentional murder, administrative negligence and criminal conspiracy, the lawyer said.

The court fixed Nov 30 for hearing.

Besides Nitish Kumar, the complainant named Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and seven others, including three ministers.

At least 18 people, including children and women, were killed and many injured in the stampede in Patna Monday evening.
