One person reportedly killed in firing in Gaya district

Patna,(BiharTimes): One person is reported to have been killed and about two dozens injured, several of them policemen, in a clash between the police and the CPI(ML) activists outside Paraiya police station in Gaya district on Thursday. One person with head injuries was rushed to Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH), Gaya.

While the police denied the killing a PTI report said that one person lost his life in the incident.

According to reports a large number of villagers and party supporters, including activists belonging to the women’s wing of the party, had gathered outside the Paraiya police station to register their protest against the alleged police inaction in a case of gang-rape of a Class XII student belonging to the weaker section of the society. She was allegedly gang-raped by few local young men belonging to the land owning class.

According to the CPI(ML) the police took about two weeks to register the case and no action had been taken against the culprits who continue to harass school and college-going girls and were roaming about freely in the area. The incident took place on September 12, 2012, and the case was registered on September 25.

The party also alleged that this was not the first case of its kind and some victims have not gone to the police on account of social stigma.

However, Gaya SSP Vinay Kumar denied that anyone was injured in the police firing as the police only fired in the air to disperse the mob that was hell bent upon setting on fire the police station.

Over 25 CPI(ML) activists were arrested in connection with the incident.
