Nawada women protest against police action against dupatta, burqa clad women during Nitish’s Yatra

Patna,(BiharTimes): A large number of women under the banner of Daman Virodhi Sarvadaliya Sangharsh Morcha took out demonstration in Nawada town on Saturday to protest against the administrative action of forcing women and girls to take off their dupattas and burqas outside Harish Chandra Stadium, when they went to listen to chief minister Nitish Kumar’s public meeting in course of his Adhikar Yatra on Tuesday last (October 9). They then gathered outside the collectorate, where a big public meeting was held.

The district secretary of All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA), Savitri Devi, while seeking the chief minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation for humiliating women, also demanded that a case be lodged against him in this connection.

Speaking on the occasion the state secretary of PUCL, Dinesh Akela, parodied the famous song from the film Pakeezah by singing Hamari na mano sipahiya se poochho, JD(U) logon ne le li hai dupatta mera.

There was thunderous applause from the protesting women and men when former state minister and Nawada RJD MLA Rajballabh Yadav said that Nitish Kumar would not be allowed to enter the district unless he tendered an apology to the women who were forced to take off their black dupattas and veils.
