Senior RJD leader badly thrashed by goons for opposing sale of liquor

Patna,(BiharTimes): Senior RJD leader Hind Kesari Yadav and several other people were on Saturday brutally assaulted by alleged henchmen of liquor traders, and that too on the campus of Muzaffarpur collectorate. Their only crime was that they were leading Nasha Virodhi Abhiyan.

Hind Kesari was on way to submit a memorandum to the district officials demanding ban on sale of liquor when some liquor traders too arrived there to surrender their licences to the district administration. They said they were doing so as a large number of people, especially women, have launched an agitation against them.

The traders and their goons attacked Kesari and his men in full public view and were not at all deterred by the presence of TV cameramen who took shots of how the 70-year old former minister of Bihar was getting beaten up.

Surprisingly, there was no police in the office of DM and the thrashing continued for quite a while.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rajesh Kumar, said strict action would be taken against those responsible for assaulting the RJD leader and investigation was on to identify the culprits.

As reported various women groups have been agitating in Muzaffarpur district over the past ten days demanding ban on sale of liqour and cancellation of licences of the vendors. Several people died in the district a few days back after they consumed adulterated liquor.
