bihar contractual teachers assured hike in salary

patna,(bihartimes): succumbing to the pressure of the contractual teachers the state human resources development minister, prashant kumar shahi, on wednesday assured that the state government is making effort for decent increase in their salaries in the near future.

talking to reporters in patna he, however, said about three lakh contractual teachers were made aware of details of the terms and conditions of service at the time of appointment. there was no eligibility test for them at that time. the state government came under strong criticism for this move. if the state government accepts all the demands of teachers, it will have to bear huge financial burden.

the minister said that now the state government has decided to increase the fixed salary of teachers in future. besides, it is going to implement uti’s retirement benefit pension schemes in the welfare of the teachers from january 1, 2013. only those teachers having the age of 54 years or less as on january 1, 2013, will be eligible to join the scheme.

uti's assessment says that those teachers who will retire after 25 years will get a monthly pension of over rs 10,000.

shahi said there is a severe shortage of experienced teachers in the schools that is why the state government has proposed that retiring teachers would have to give their contribution until the age of 65 years.

the minister’s statement came after the chief minister repeatedly rejected the demand of the teachers for hike in salary. it was only at the fag end of the adhikar yatra that he said that if the state gets special status category the salary of the teachers may be increased.
