bihar contractual teachers’ body flays education minister on salary

patna,(bihartimes): the newly appointed secondary teachers association president ganesh shankar pandey and vice president navin kumar navin have strongly criticized human resources development minister prashant kumar shahi on the issue of equal salary to contractual teachers.

in a statement they said that during the last lok sabha election the election commission was given in writing by the state government that the teachers were not on contract and that they were in permanent service upto 60 years. when the service is permanent the salary structure should also be the same.

they criticised the minister by stating the government should have clear understanding about its teachers recruitment regulation.

it is strange that the regulation prepared in 2006 had been revised four times in the last five years.

they said that the government regulation is not lasting even for the one planned year. “why can not we have education and teachers friendly regulation. when teachers are expected to work like regular teachers what is wrong if they have similar salaries and service conditions,” they asked.

they said that the state government excuse that it would be bogged down by huge financial burden if it paid prescribed pay was wrong. it was the state government that had abolished over 1.30 posts of teachers in 2006. the government said that it could have four teachers with the salary of one regular teacher. thus it was a conscious decision of the government to exploit the unemployed youth.

the two leaders said when recruitment agency was under the panchayati raj institution why did the government define the role of education official. normally the appointing authority happens to be the controlling authority. but as of now nothing is clear in bihar.
