Not a single bidder turned up for Ganga Driveway project, once again

Patna,(BiharTimes): The much publicized Ganga Driveway project once again found no bidder after the project’s financial bid was opened on Friday after four postponements.

Left with no option the road construction department is now likely to explore the alternative modes of executing the project.

According to road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav 12 firms had responded to the expression of interest floated for the Ganga Driveway project. Nine of those firms were shortlisted for the request for proposal (RFP)/ financial bidding stage. “But we found on Friday that none of the short-listed firms submitted their bids,” he added.

The shortlisted firms included Reliance Infrastructure, Welspun, Indus-C&C Consortium, Simplex Projects Limited, Transstroy India Limited, and Nagarjuna Constructions.

It must be recalled that the date for opening the financial bid was postponed from August 3 to August 14, yet no bidder turned up even that day.

Once again the deadline was extended to September 15, then to October 10 and again to October 19. Yet the Public-Private Partnership project failed to find any bidder.

This is not the first time that Ganga Driveway project has met the same fate. In past several decades a number of attempts, or at least announcements, have been made in this regard, but it never yielded any result. Several experts are of the view that it is not simply possible because of environment.
