no respite from garbage for patnaites as private firms back out

patna,(bihartimes): the citizens of patna are destined to wallow in muddy water, filth and garbage for some more time as the firms assigned to keep the streets clean backed out of the project late on friday night. the work was earlier given to another company, which too left the people of the state capital in lurch.

jindal-itf limited and mbm-dallah were selected by the urban infrastructure development corporation (buidco) on behalf of patna municipal corporation (pmc). now the firms have written a letter to the pmc, informing it of their decision.

ironically it was only on friday that the patna high court fixed sep 27 as the deadline to remove filth and garbage from roads. and it was on friday night itself that the pmc commissioner pankaj kumar pal got the information from the two companies about their decision.

meanwhile, ward councillors on saturday boycotted the pmc and buidco’s proposal to set up a special purpose vehicle, which would be under the urban development department and collect solid waste from streets and households. the members said that this is not acceptable as the buidco will take all control and the councillors and the pmc would be left with no control.

on the other hand buidco managing director, anupam suman, “if the no-objection certificate is given to us, work will start immediately. a monthly charge of rs 30 will be charged from each household for waste collection. small shops and hotels will have to pay rs 100 every month
