IT notice to JD(U) on Adhikar Rally

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Tax Deduction at Source section of the Income Tax department had served notice on the Janata Dal (United) on December 19 last under Section 194 (C) of the IT Act 1952, seeking details on the expenditure on November 4 Adhikar Rally as well as payment made to the contractors who provided various facilities for it.

The notice sent by IT deputy commissioner, Ajay Jadeja, to the finance authorities also demanded information on the money spent on banners, flags, hoardings, posters, transportation, catering services and temporary shelters erected for those who attended the rally.

“Under the IT Act the TDS is mandatory while making contractual payments but we had no information whether this was done or not. The expenditure on Adhikar Rally would be big. We need to know its source and whether the government got its share or tax,” an IT official was quoted in the media.

He claimed that when no reply came from the Janata Dal (United) on the notice one of its prominent members dealing with the party finances was summoned to the IT department on Wednesday.

According to sources “the party official said that the information needed to reply to the notice has been sought from Janata Dal (United)’s office in New Delhi. He told us that it is expected to arrive by Jan 15, after which they will share it with us.”

The IT department has collected the video and photographs of the rally and the arrangements made for it. Once the details regarding expenditure are provided by the party the contractors involved in providing the services will also be questioned.

The state president of the Janata Dal (United) said, Vashisth Narayan Singh, said “we are a transparent party and whatever needs to be done, we would do.”
