nagpur-born 60 years old verma took early retirement last december when he was india’s ambassador in bhutan.
verma has also served in moscow, nicosia (cyprus) and thimpu (bhutan) and in new york where he was associated with india’s permanent mission in the united nations. besides he served as the director of the nehru centre, london, the press secretary to the president, the spokesman of ministry of external affairs and the director general of indian council for cultural research.
during the meeting with the chief minister, verma presented his newly released book ‘chanakya’s new manifesto’ to him.
verma is the author of over 20 books, including ‘the great indian middle class’, ‘ghalib: the man, the times’, ‘haveli of old delhi’, ‘krishna the playful divine’, ‘yudhishthir and draupadi’, ‘love and lust’ and ‘kamasutra’. he has also translated poems of kaifi azmi and atal bihari vajpayee into english.
verma’s father was an ics officer and grandfather the first indian chief justice of allahabad high court.
