Hoax caller arrested from Bihar

New Delhi, March 4 :The police have arrested a person who made a hoax call Feb 26 to Delhi airport authorities about a bomb on board a Patna-bound Indigo flight thereby delaying it, an official said Monday.

Ilangovan Promodh, 33, was arrested March 2 from Danapur near Patna in Bihar for allegedly making the hoax bomb call.

"Pramodh revealed that he had made the call from his cell phone because he was getting late for the Delhi-Patna Indigo flight No.6E148, on which he had booked to go to Patna to meet his wife, a medical officer in the Indian Army," said Jagjit Singh Deswal, deputy commissioner of police (IGI).

Deswal said that Pramod, who is unemployed, had gone to Sonepat in Haryana to appear in an exam, a day before he made the hoax call.

"While returning from Sonepat, he consumed alcohol and called to (Indira Gandhi International) IGI (airport) authorities after he realised that he would be late for the flight. But after making the call his phone got switched off and he then took a train to go to Patna," said the officer.

The police said the 138 passengers, who were in the aircraft, were off-loaded along with their baggage as part of the security operation to detect the reported explosive, which lasted for about an hour-and-half.
