Bihar facing huge shortage of judges in subordinate courts: Minister

Patna,(BiharTimes): Law Minister Narendra Narayan Yadav said that about 16.81 lakh civil and criminal cases are pending in subordinate courts in Bihar because of the shortage of judges.

Replying to a short notice question of CPI’s Kedar Pandey in the Legislative Council on Tuesday he said a total of 14.15 lakh criminal and 2.66 civil cases are pending in the different courts of the state.

In all 204 posts in superior judiciary service and 365 posts of sub-judge in junior division are lying vacant in different courts of the state and the process to fill vacant posts was on.

The minister said at present 299 judges of superior judiciary (ADJ, civil judge), 193 sub-judges of the senior division (CJM, ACJM) and 426 judges of lower judiciary (registrar, munsif and SDJM) are working in the state.

The minister informed the House that in all seven districts Araria, Banka, Supual, Kisanganj, Seikhpura, Lakhisarai and Arwal do not have subordinate courts due to non-availability of infrastructural facilities.
