replying to a short notice question of baidyanath prasad of bjp in the legislative council, minister in-charge home vijay kumar chaudhary said in some cases courts have given punishment to the accused in record time.
a person was given death sentence within a week of trial in a rape case registered with barari police station of katihar district and another three accused were awarded death sentence within 22 days in a rape case in saharsa district, the minister said.
the house was informed that a total of 823 cases of rape were registered in the first 10 months of 2012.
