Bihar to seize properties of 20

 


Patna, March 24 : Bihar Police has begun the process of seizing the properties of 20 criminals and corrupt people.

"We have started the legal process," police chief Abhyanand said.

The police's economic offences unit has prepared a list of 20 people whose properties are to be confiscated.

The seizures will be made under the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance.

Those affected would include notorious criminals, liquor mafia dons and middlemen who pilfered government funds in Araria, Jehanabad, Darbhanga as well as Muzaffarpur districts.

Last year, the government confiscated the properties of two middlemen, Rudranand Jha and Rampukar Choudhary, who misappropriated government funds, in Araria.

The two were accused of siphoning off Rs.30 crore from the Indira Awas Yojana between 2001 to 2008

Till date, the Bihar government has seized the houses of six government officials.
