When will your cops become courteous, Nitish Ji?

Dear Chief Minister,

The more you want your police to behave with aam admi in a decent and polite manner, the more they are becoming rude. And if this can happen in the State Capital, imagine the plight of common man in remote areas.

I would like to bring to your notice Tuesday night incident in which you were returning from Kankarbagh. The entire main stretch (150 feet wide road) you were to traverse, was completely cordoned off and all the vehicles, including four wheelers and two-wheelers, on the road were made to standby in the adjoining bylanes. All the vehicles were asked to put off their light. The Kankarbagh cops were shouting on mike asking all the vehicle owners to switch off their lights as if there was some kind of curfew.

Even you must have noticed that when you were crossing through the main thoroughfares, it appeared that as if there was a curfew in some Arab country.

Are we living in a democratic country or a banana republic? Please tell your over-jealous security staff and the police to show the same kind of courtesy towards general public as the kind of courtesy you expect from people towards you.

This has been going on for quite long, that’s why I thought of writing to you and give you the feedback that such kind of authoritarian attitude will show you in poor light. I am sure you never approve of such police (mis)behaviour but I am equally sure you are not aware of misdemeanour/high-handedness of your men-in-khakhi.

I have been staying in Kankarbagh since 1977 and have even seen the then President Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy coming here along with late JP to inaugurate Jayaprabha Hospital. But never saw such rude behaviour of the police.

Hope you will treat my letter as a feedback from a common man and try to stem the rot by asking the police to refrain from high-handedness and be courteous towards aam admi.

Regards,

A resident (of Kankarbagh)

Patna
