An Open Letter to Prashant Kishor

INDRA R SHARMA

Dear Prashant

According to media, you along with some 60 other professionals had set up Citizens for Accountable Governance (CAG), to galvanise votes for Modi and later to address social issues. The media gives you the credit of the thumping success of Modi in 2014 election. The country men will like to know if the work of the team under your leadership was some sorts of paid consultancy or volunteer work because the team members believed in the political philosophy and the strength of Modi and the necessity of his brand of leadership for the nation. The question becomes more pertinent after the news report in last months.

Again it appeared in media that you have left Modi camp and joined Nitish Kumar to manage his election campaign and to make him win. The nation will like to know the reason of your defection. Here again, we will like to know if it is paid brand building assignment or consultancy or volunteer assignment. There was an interesting news report in Indian Express that said, "A 300-plus team of the Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC) that is mostly, about 70 per cent, made up of IIT graduates have left high-paying jobs in MNCs to join the Nitish campaign. Very few, only two in the core team, belong to Bihar. All are taking a break from their jobs." That means so many non-Biharis have become anti-Modi and wish to defeat him by helping Nitish alliance in the forthcoming assembly election.

Your defection from Modi camp has raised many questions in people's mind, particularly once you joined Nitish Kumar, who had been openly opposing every thing that Modi and his government stand for, be it the definition of secularism, or development policies from labour law to land bill. You would have seen some strong reasons for bringing Nitish Kumar to power in Bihar. You all would have been immensely impressed by the development work done by Nitish Kumar in Bihar, a real backward state. The people of Bihar in particular and that of the whole country too will like you to educate them with all the plus points of Nitish as the chief minister designate of the allied parties such Lalu's RJD and Rahul' Congress. Was the reason that Nitish Kumar gave to part way with BJP good enough or was it a personal ego against Modi that you liked? It will certainly be a tooth to nail fight with NDA led by Modi in Bihar.

Don't you agree that Nitish is an average traditional performer. His growth appears good on a base of no growth for decades under highly selfish chief ministers that Bihar got. Bihar needs an aggressive missionary as leader who can think out of the box, who can take Bihar in the league of better states in the next five years with support from the government at the centre. Do you believe Nitish can do that with his arrogance with the centre and with Lalu in company? Nitish lacks the bold leadership quality for Bihar that can make the people sacrifice, work hard, drop bad practices such as open defecation. With all his Sampark Yatras, Nitish could have talked about some of the cultural weaknesses of Bihar vociferously and impacted at least to bring about the social changes in Bihar, but for him all those yatras were only for garnering votes.

I have listed my reasons for not liking him now, though I was his big fan when he started in 2005. You can look in them. That is available on my blog drishtikona.com and bihartimes.com. Please tell me if it is not rational view.

I wish you discuss out some of the drawbacks of Nitish way to develop Bihar that remains at the bottom of all the states, the poorest state, most illiterate state, a state whose young men and women are to migrate for earning their livings or to get admitted for higher education. Can you prepare for a time-bound measurable target oriented plan of development on different parameters that gradually reduces both the migrations?

Nitish Kumar on July 27 said those who could not observe the development of the state in the past decade needed to get their eyes checked by a doctor. I visit and see Bihar with open eyes and read every bit about it to get a pride in my home state. I don't need the help from his ophthalmologist. Can he ask his ophthalmologist to help thousands of poor in rural Bihar suffering from eye-related problems?

PS: Dear Prasant, I will further appeal you to request Nitish to use 400 Tata minivans pushed in election campaign as ambulances in 400 gram Panchayats to take the critical patients to the hospitals in nearby towns. One more question to your boss: Could not he expand Kalam's dream project of Mobile Science Laboratories from three to a number equal to the number of districts of Bihar? Why are Kalam’s Vikshit Bharat Foundation and Agastya International Foundation still meeting the operational cost of these MSLs?
