Bihar Times :Patna | March 26
In a major push to place Bihar firmly on the global aviation map, the state government has approved a new destination policy aimed at launching international flight operations from key airports. The move is expected to significantly improve passenger convenience while giving a strong boost to the state’s economic growth.
Under the policy, airlines will be offered financial assistance and a range of incentives to start services on international routes, with the government aiming to attract more carriers to operate directly from Bihar. The focus of this initiative is on expanding operations from Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport and Gaya International Airport, where preparations for new international connections are already underway.
As part of the rollout, the state has invited bids from airlines, with the tender process beginning on March 25. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for April 7, while April 15, 2026 has been set as the deadline for submission of applications. Authorities will select eligible airlines through this process to operate the proposed routes.
In the initial phase, flights are expected to connect Bihar with key global destinations such as Kathmandu, Sharjah, Bangkok, Colombo and Singapore. This development will reduce the need for passengers from Bihar to depend on airports in other states for international travel.
Sources indicate that airlines participating in the bidding process must have approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), ensuring that safety and operational standards are strictly maintained.
The government believes that improved international connectivity will open new avenues for tourism, trade and investment, ultimately accelerating Bihar’s socio-economic development. With the Civil Aviation Department working to fast-track implementation, the state is poised to take a significant step forward in connecting with the world.
